Off to the East
Oct. 9th, 2006 06:27 amGetting up in about 3 hours to fly off to Connecticut, but I'm transferring data so I'll blog quick while I'm waiting.
Visited my grandmother and my stepmom on Saturday. If I weren't so sleepy, I'd probably have some things to say about it, but I'm too tired to remember.
Before that, I went to the "Get This $#!+ Out Of Here" sale at Black & Read's secondary location down at 44th & Wads. I got 8 novels, a Straight Dope book, a CD (Joe Satriani, Surfing With the Alien), and 33 back issues of Analog for 17 bucks! Awesome! Two of the books are ones I already have but am going to take to work for the take a book / leave a book cart in the library. The rest are assorted SF/Fantasy and one Erma Bombeck.
Today I did laundry and dropped off ancient clothes from a box of old stuff from my Dad's in the donation bin and took some stuff to the storage unit. Watched X-Men 3 this evening. Enjoyed it; it mostly worked.
What else have I been up to? Oh, yeah, that's the other thing. I discovered a new game: http://www.wesnoth.org/. Freeware. Turn-based fantasy strategy, a lot like Warlords, if you remember that. Simple, but with lovely sprite graphics and very good, clean design. Nearly a hundred fan-contributed campaigns. Addictive. Watch out!

Date: 2006-10-09 01:35 pm (UTC)I donated two boxes of books to the AAUW this weekend, which means I am allowed to take a trip to the location you mention. (I've never been to this one before!)
I used to own that Joe Satriani album on tape. As a young teen I was totally obsessed with "Always with Me," which represented everything soppy I assumed about love without lyrics to interfere. My brother, an avid comic book reader, to this day remains disappointed "that the album isn't as cool as it's cover." This isn't to say you won't enjoy it. I imagine you're a lot more comfortable with shredding guitar licks than he is.
Rock on! (I wish I knew the keyboard symbol for devil horns.)
On X-men 3: Second class citizens = second class mutants. Plus, Magneto's vision for a nudist mutant colony.
