Damped

Yesterday it rained. A lot. Buckets. Hours. Record-setting amounts, in point of fact.

I felt a little bit clever because I have finally learned to carry around an umbrella when it might rain, just in case. And in fact, I had an umbrella yesterday.

Working late to finish up a chunk of code and stopping at the grocery store for dinner and some essentials made me late for Star Wars at Jeff's, but the rain made everyone else late, too, so it was okay.

Today it isn't really raining, but it's overcast and damp. I'm feeling tired and lethargic, and I just realized that it's probably because I haven't had enough sunlight, since it's been rainy since yesterday afternoon. That's right: Dr. Tectonic is solar-powered.

Must. Attempt. To write. JavaDoc. *ugh*

Surely a poison-tipped dart shooting umbrella, right?

Hmph.

I hope you fall on your poison tipped umbrella because I am so very jealous of people in any sort of campaign. I am beginning to feel like a horrible level-ing fest/hacking and slashing session would satisfy my gaming hungers. But it wouldn't it would leave me hollow and disappointed like chinese food or prostitution.

My Beloved and I could easily snag a bunch of local gamers and sit around with them, but worthwhile gamers? Ah, not so easy. We remember your talents fondly and regret bitterly that we wasted our time in your presence passing our classes and graduatingn when we could have had some excellent gaming instead.

I love being in the bottoms tray of that big distillation column called The Sky.

Sunlight

Well, if you will excuse me for telling you how to fix the problem (yeah, I know, I've been living in US for long enough that I should know better, but I'm still fascinated by the fact that, most of the time, the solution exists, is legal and for sale, so what, I'm gonna say it anyway...) ;-)

Solar Powered Dr. Tectonic can, if he wants to, buy one of the funky lamps that claim to emit a sun-like spectrum. There are many brands for sale, and if you don't tell people you got it from a sewing store, no one will ever know -- so just try say, http://www.ottlite.com/ and see if you like it, who knows, maybe they even sell it on normal department stores far far away from sewing/craft departments. Then set it up in your office and let your bosses pay for the electricity to power you up to a better mood. ;-)

This is a good idea, and I would probably do it if I lived someplace like Seattle, but the grey is rare enough around here that it's easier to just wait a day.

Statistically, Colorado has 350 sunny days a year, where "sunny" is defined as clear skies for more than half the state for more than half the day.

That's a lot of sun.

Wow, cool!

The other fun thing when I was visiting was the snow that would disappear by afternoon; the first time it happened I could have sworn I had just dreamed it snowed, but everyone was still talking about how it had snowed and it was annoying and all I could think of was "well, at least you did not have to shovel it"... then again, maybe only Golden and Denver have disappearing snow, I wouldn't know.
