Wicked

saintpookie loaned me the Wicked soundtrack, and I am really enjoying it. I am not, in general, a big fan of show tunes, though there are a number of musicals that I like. Wicked seems to be one of those. There's a lot of great lyrical wordplay, and the tunes are catchy, and the singers are pretty much amazing. My favorites are What Is This Feeling and Popular, because they're funny, and Defying Gravity because it is soaring and beautiful and melancholy.

I still find Wicked to be the best of the bunch, but I think that's because the mythic elements in Mirror, Mirror don't work for me as well as they do in Wicked.

I hated the book of Wicked, and wrote a bitchy review a couple weeks ago in my journal. (I hate most things, though...)

We are planning to see the musical next month, though, when it comes to Toronto.
