Do you microwave to set the colors? Are you using pro ion dyes? And what are you using on the silk?

For vegetable fibers, Procion rocks. I’ve found on animal fibers you get all kinds of color shifts. After a tie dye party with friends, we had a mess of left over dyes. I had almost a pound of white woolen homespun yarn that I decided to experiment on. The mega hank got dipped into the soda ash solution, put into an enameled turkey roaster and the dye was applied in stripes across. Then it sat overnight in the oven with heat from just the pilot flame. The results were unexpectedly pastel and rusts faded to golds, deep blues shifted to mauve and lilac, forest green went to chartreuse.

Love shopping from Dharma. The know what they’re doing. Incidentally, while it’s not typical for what they carry, it’s where I got my current spinning wheel.

That shibori piece is gorgeous. If it disappears, check my closet.
