I got a haircut today, and it may well be the shortest my hair has ever been. I think it looks pretty good though. I used to occasionally get my hair cut at a barbershop a couple blocks away, but the building it was in got torn down, and I didn't know where it relocated to. But! I found it the other day! It's behind the barbecue place across the highway from where it used to be!

And just the other day the hair place (is Fantastic Sam's a 'hair salon'?) a block away from us that I went to all the time closed down, so I needed to find a new place to get my hair cut, especially now that I can't drop by anyplace in Boulder after work (since I am sans auto all summer). So it was a nice bit of timing on the universe's part that I rediscovered it just when I needed to.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that having your hair cut at a barber's by a... well, a cowboy, basically, is a very different experience than getting it cut at a hair salon by a small asian woman. My only complaint is that I have to remember to take my checkbook, because they don't take credit cards and I never have cash.

Speaking of credit/debit cards

I've become disgusted with businesses/credit/debit card machine companies that now require a min purchase to use credit/debit cards. Sooo inconvient when a lot of us rarely keep cash, or a lot of it on us on a regular basis.

I almost never use my check book, except to pay bills by mail and/or the rent.

I think it's because the credit card companies charge the vendor a flat fee per transaction, and if they're a small business or a new customer, the fees can eat up their profits entirely on small transactions, so they don't want $1 charges because they'll actually lose money. Which I can totally understand, but I agree, it's still inconvenient.

That place still called Louie's? I got my first haircut there. My dad refused to go anywhere else for a long, long time. I think he was just allergic to the word "salon."

I dunno if Louie is still cutting hair, though. I didn't see him there...

He'd be pretty old by now, if he was. Not that barbering types aren't also the types to barber on till the end of their days, God bless 'em!

Louie was only in his 40s or 50s a couple years ago -- but it could well be that he's actually Louie Jr..
