I just spent the evening cooking and teaching trigonometry. Much more of the former than the latter; Kung Fu Monkey is vastly more math-smart than he gives himself credit for. I'm very proud of him-- he learns all good and stuff.

I'm not sure why I went on a cooking jag. I think I wanted to use up all the ingredients I picked up at the store today before I forgot what I was going to do with them. But I made a lot of stuff.

Steamed some fresh corn and a pair of artichokes for dinner (though we didn't actually get to the artichokes. Braised some fennel with onions, added a little bit of vinegar -- seems like it will be pretty good. Made a big bowl of tuna salad. Cooked up some sausage, onions, mushrooms, potatoes, and spinach; stuck it in a loaf pan with ricotta and mozarella to bake into a kind of noodle-less lasagna (or something-- I guess we'll find out when I stick it in the oven). Steamed baby zucchini, and got them all ready to broil and be parmesan-crusted. And finally, I poached some pears in red wine with pomegranate.

So I guess we'll be eating decently over the coming week...

Mmmm...poached pears.

Maybe I should make some of them. We've got a box of Niagara pears to eat now.

Even better...poached pears with goat cheese and pepper. Mmmm...

We attempted barbequeue for a couple church couples. Oven-baked chicken is OK, which is fortunate because my masculinity proved insufficient to start the barbequeue. More surprisingly, Christie's did, too. It was vastly less artistic, but likewise a culinary achievement on our scale.

We also de-TEPified the kitchen. It looks great. Too good to cook in.

Darn you and the drool stain you've caused down the front of my shirt!
