The Illusionist

We watched The Illusionist last night, and I quite enjoyed it (well, except for the fact that everything was orange).

I thought they did a good job maintaining the central ambiguity of the premise. Is it just a trick, or is it really magic? I was unsure and thought it could go either way all the way up to the end. And I liked that there were plenty of things left unspoken. A very well-executed mystery story, I think.

And if late 1800s style men's facial hair were to come back into fashion, that wouldn't be a bad thing at all.

The trick came straight our of Shakespeare. I was irritated for the whole second half of the movie that no one could see what was going on.

I really enjoyed it as well. I felt like I knew about where it was going from pretty early on, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment at all. It was done very well, and Edward Norton is pretty much always a joy.
