At our weekly meeting yesterday, I mentioned that I expected this week to involve a lot of "high-overhead context switching", a phrase my boss found fascinating (she seems to take great interest in the computing-metaphor-infused turns of phrase I sometimes use), and so far it has been. Today was annoyingly unproductive.

Well, it felt unproductive, anyway. I mean, I did have a meeting with our GIS expert that advanced my understanding of map projections enough that I now fully grasp what the modelers need to put into the metadata of their files and why, and I also got a chance to look at some other sample datafiles and see that the metadata currently being providing is totally jacked-up and inconsistent, but that wasn't really what I was planning on doing, and it didn't take all that much time, it was just a set of interactions that really could only happen today. I'm dissatisfied because I didn't get anything done on the things I wanted to get done.

Probably it's spring fever. I feel restless, and I have nervous energy that's hard to focus. I needed to go somewhere that wasn't home and wasn't work this evening, so I went and got bi-bim-bap for dinner. It helped. Still feeling off-wavelength.

There is definitely something in the air today. Personally, that unsettled wavelength is making me feel quite paranoid :-/

"high-overhead context switching"

Very Nice. May I appropriate this? I promise to find at least three opportunities to use this today.

Please do! It's always nice to have a good description of something significant.

Spring here went from 80ºF highs to maybe 50ºF highs. Sigh. Someday it will get warm again.

hi,
I'm choosing to comment in your (first? only?) metadata-related entry, since it's appropriate to my name/profession. However, my comment is not related to metadata:

[livejournal.com profile] melted_snowball tells me that I should contact you about designing a boardgame with a poly-network theme. See http://metalana.livejournal.com/177804.html for the ideas collected so far. This is clearly more for fun than for profit, but oh, the fun that could be had!
