Pumpkin-carving potluck for work yesterday. I made edamame (frozen is cheap, hooray!) and the vietnamese pumpkin using actual pumpkin instead of butternut squash. It went over well, and I was pleased that I was able to rescue it when I undercooked half the pieces because they were too big. (Add water, cover, and steam for a few minutes before cooking off all the liquid again.)
Of course, this meant that I got to gut two pumpkins yesterday, which was a little tiresome. I made a spider-face pumpkin. The vegetable peeler that I grabbed off-handedly at the last minute turned out to be key to this process -- it let me make eyes that were actually round. I'll bring him along and take a picture tomorrow at
zalena's.
