Unexpected victory!

It's a beautiful day out, so before I settle down to spend the afternoon writing documentation, I decided I needed to get out of the house and go do something.

I decided to shop for shoes. I always have a hard time finding shoes that (1) fit (I think I'm size 10 triple- or maybe even quadruple-E, depending), (2) don't cost far more than I'm comfortable paying, and (3) look good, and over the last few years fashion has really hosed me on front #3. (There are lots of currently-popular styles that look okay on other people, but when I try them on I totally loathe them.)

I misremembered where the shoe stores are (hint: not 120th Ave.), so I was doubling back to go down a different street when I saw K-Mart, and thought what the hey.

Score! Not only did I find a pair of shoes that are comfortable and that I didn't hate for $12, I also found a great dress shirt, a pair of good-looking cargo pants, and a new belt! W00T! And all for cheap, because they're having a big sale that ends today.

It's all the more pleasing because I didn't actually expect to find anything, I just wanted to go outside.

Geez, I was going to recommend Zappos (free shipping free returns); but if you can find it at Kmart, you're not going to get it cheaper anywhere else.

Gotta agree with you here. It doesn't get much cheaper than Kmart.

Given my rectangle-shaped Fred Flintstone feet, I have had the problem of fitting into shoes for all of my life. However, I have pretty much gotten shoes ever since (like my dad) at Hitchcock--http://www.wideshoes.com/. Don't know if there's anything, though, that you would find aesthetically appealing--their selection is somewhat limited.

At around $60, I'll toss New Balance shoes into the mix. I wear 10.5x4E. Chris wears 10x6E. The last several times I've needed shoes, I walk into the store, find a style I like and just get that size.

They've fit perfectly every single time.

I've heard enough about NB that I know I need to check them out. (That's on the same list as "find out if I need to get my orthotics updated", since just throwing out the insole works better with cheap shoes than decent ones...)

I miss K-mart. I used to get all my throw-away runners there. They closed down in Canada many years ago.

7.5EEE here, or 8EEE depending on the manufacturer. (Yup, triangles.) The concept of buying shoes without trying them on has always boggled my mind: mail-order or over the internet. T-shirts, underwear, socks and ties I can see.
