It's like they made it to be as addictive as possible to me specifically.

That's pretty tasty. I'm going to check out the released Puzzle Quest, since it has some overlap with a game proposal I'm putting together at work. Are there multiple types of puzzles in the game (a la Puzzle Pirates), or is it all variations on one Bejewelled-type thing?

All the puzzles use the gem-matchup format. Some are have non-movable blocks, or special blocks. But the core of the game is the match 3+ in a row.
