Stuff makes me tired

I am taking a class on Advanced Perl this week.
It's good. I'm learning new stuff, and getting some stuff I sorta knew down a lot better. There's a bunch of stuff that I already know, or that I get after the first half of the explanation, which is good, because I can use that time to catch up on all the email and suchlike that's not slowing down while I'm out of the office.
I am freakin' exhausted.
Partly I have this horrible cold that is receding, but still hosing my voice. And all the computers in the classroom make mind-deadening noise. And of course today I had to go in early to take the Jetta in to the dealer, because the fuel door wouldn't open, and it was down to 1/4 tank of gas. Which is, y'know, a minor thing, but you really can't not fix it. (Happily, they were able to fit it in, because they are awesome.)
And, well, last night was Games Night at Chris's, so we played Tales of the Arabian Nights until midnight. It's a kind of multi-player boardgame Choose Your Own Adventure. It was fun, though we really didn't come at all close to finishing.
So it's not really unreasonable that I'm tired.
But yeah. I am.

Date: 2009-08-13 04:18 pm (UTC)I freely admit that the extent to which I love perl for any particular project is inversely proportional to the size of the project, and this has gotten me into trouble when small projects I started in perl have gotten big enough that I no longer love perl for them. But the projects I like best anyway are the ones that are small enough for perl to be a good tool for them, so it tends to work out well.

I've worked on perl programs that, libraries included, were over 40k lines. The only reason it was moderately sane is that the bits that were authored after perl 4 tended to resemble C as far as style went.
Perl is simply too flexible to work on for any large sized program without a strong style being enforced throughout the project.
