There's this well-established statistic that married (well, let's say "partnered", instead) people live significantly longer than single people.

Conventional wisdom generally attributes this difference to ethereal things like emotional support and social stress levels.

I think it's much more prosaic.

I think it's the cumulative effects of having someone else around to help deal with all the little aches and pains that you can't normally can't reach, like zits on your back.

That, and having someone around who will say, "It's been two weeks, would you go to the damn doctor already? And take your damn pills!"

I thought the stat was that men live longer, women shorter?
I doubt they've done the study on same-sex partners.

I'm glad I have a girlfriend now, because she can watch the moles on my back and make sure they don't turn cancerous.

That'll probably save two years at least.

Without a sweetie to pester me, I don't bother to see the doctor very often, and often eat really unhealthy food. Hmmm...
