Yesterday was Ghostwalk. Monkey made very yummy dinner -- sri lankan chicken omelette and veggie korma, and Karen made really tasty cake for Kate's birthday, and there were asian-supermarket munchies a-plenty. We spent, like, 8 hours gaming and socializing, and it was a very enjoyable session.

Okay, you really don't care. Nobody cares about other people's RPGs. But...

So. Your standard big underground cavern. Big snake-guy (a yuan-ti abomination) suddenly appears from the underground stream. Combat! And the very first thing that happens is he polymorphs my character (the rogue) into a snake.

The ranger sends his wolf to fetch the snake out of harm's way (ssssss, say I, being a snake in mind and body) and I start playing Karen's character for a little bit, since she's gone. But then a couple minutes later, we remember that there's a Will to keep your mind intact! Will saves I can make. We roll it, and I do! So okay, my character is now a snake.

The fight goes well, but snakes are slow and we're hurting by the time I get slithered into position. Finally, I'm behind him, and I attack! Add attack bonus, +2 for flanking, I still have to spend an Action Point and it only gets me an extra +1, but I hit! Doing 1 whole point of damage! Ooo, but he's flanked, so snake-rogue gets an extra d6 of damage, and I roll a 6! So that's pretty cool. And then Thomas realizes that I'm he said I was a venomous snake. So I get to roll 1d6 of Con damage. A 5! The monster has 12 hit dice, so he loses 24 hit points from that. And he dies!

And then everyone says: "Well, I guess that polymorph spell really came back to bite him in the ass."

(Har har)

Second thing: at the end of the session, Thomas handed out a bunch of new character sheets and we got to do a little mini cut-scene adventure with NPCs. Low-level NPCs. Who get attacked by a dragon. So they all die, of course. And after they come back as ghosts (because it's ghostwalk), they die again. But during the fight, Kate (who's playing an adept, not even a full-blown cleric) rolls a double critical hit, and does maximum damage with an ice spear (150% damage), doing 45 points of damage in a single hit from a non-fighter! It was, *ahem*, pretty cool.

(Har de har har)

I miss seeing you, Mr. Bryan. We need to get you in a game, me thinks, and to help with the pining.

Despite the wisdom of remembering to not over-share, I must admit, Nick heard about it from me on Sunday, 'cause wow. 'nuf said.

Dinner was yummy...

Hey, I need more Ghostwalk details... I love hearing about it from your end. I live vicariously through you. I still have no local group. le *sigh*

Honest and for truly? You actually care? Wow!

Well, the general gist is that some young acolyte at the monastery was having prophetic dreams about horrible things under the city, so the Canon (the party's boss, basically) sent us to go clean it out. (The city of Manifest is built on top of, like, three previous incarnations, so there's lots and lots and lots of under to it.)

So there's this gigantic pit that we take a hand-cranked elevator platform down into, with various side-caverns to clear out, and then down at the bottom was the set of caverns for Saturday's adventures. The whole place was crawling with snakes and yuan-ti. (Yuan-ti are one of the setting's bad-guy staples.)

What else was interesting down there... we found several ghost-prisons (my character got temporarily sucked into one) that we lugged back up top, where the trapped ghosts can hopefully get let out. Got to rescue a minotaur from a yuan-ti torture chamber, which was an interesting moral dilemma. The magic pool that the abomination was guarding can open up a portal to different planes, and the yuan-ti were using it to bring in more yuan-ti from their home dimension. We're not quite sure what to do about that yet, and we're hoping the church will think of something clever.

Oh, and after we get out of the pit, this nasty wyvern/yuan-ti halfbreed comes flying up out of it (we didn't search in the place where the egg was hidden), which was worrisome because we were tapped out for magic and fairly beat-up, but the eight guardsmen that had been sent down to watch over it pincushioned it pretty quick with crossbows, so all's well that ends well.

planar portal eh? and what level is the party?

Fifth. I'm pretty sure we won't be doing much dimensional travel, though. Too much interesting plot going on in the regular world, and figuring out the rules changes can be obnoxious. (Ghosts + planar physics = confusing)

Although we did already have the mini-adventure where we got to trek through the Astral Plane to rescue Phoebe's ghost when she went into the library inside her ring, and then my character took the ring off, which resulted in her getting pulled from the psychic projection of the library that the ring creates into the real, physical library on the astral.

It's as a direct result of that session that we added the phrase "it seemed like a good idea at the time" to our party's motto. And instituted the policy that we now always check with a higher authority (either the Canon or an augury spell) before we experiment with strange magicks and unexplained phenomena.

it's probably good I'm not there... my characters always seem to do something dangerous.... like accidentally create fission explosions (GURPS), worshiping golden calves--all the locals were doing it, we just wanted to fit in (this wierd ass Christian RPG from high school). Pulling/pushing the red button/lever marked Do Not Push/Pull.

good times. I am thinking if I could even get 2 people to sign on I could maybe to a cool littel Full Metal Alchemist type game with the eberron setting. And I am still formulating Deep Sky stuff down at a subconsious level (y'know where you are watching television or a movie or reading and you stealincorporate some cool new ideas)

What is "local" anyway...

I was telling Beem's a couple of weeks ago that I didn't see why it wouldn't be very functional to virtual-game long distance (you'll remember that they tried this a couple months back) over real-time (VVOIP or some direct connect program) video phone if the telepresent person was GMing as that would force the not-forgetting of the telepresent gamer.
Yike that's an ugly sentence.
Anyway. Semi-random thought of the day.

Unless for some reason he had to drop out our friend Rob is playing via ichat video. unfortunately I haven't got the $150 needed to to even be able... plus while it would satisfy some (most?) of the urge it is a long way to pass the doritos. and it makes it hard to sit around before/after and get all chummy and distracted...

if there was a decent job for me I would seriously consider returning to denver, ocean or no ocean.

Rob is, in fact, still ichatting his way into the game. It's pretty cool. He does miss the yummy food every week, but, I think for the most part it feels like he's there. Although, it's likely different from his end.

Job?! Josh?! Okay, then. And, for good measure, we'll find one for Sara, too, so we can have Sara and Rona and Josh goodness.

*and* a pony? Good grief man! Isn't enough that you get the priviledge of living and working in COlorado, *with* your wife and daughter?!

Granted, no ocean unless some catacylsm, and be quiet about the assorted beverage choices, but we also have games a'plenty. And, well, ourselves...
