We just finished watching the first season of Alias on DVD; enjoyed it quite a bit, though it's pretty freakin' rude on the cliffhanger scale. Thoughts:

The last episode was a particularly nice coming-full-circle kind of thing.

The number of loose ends left flapping spectacularly to cause problems in season two was pretty impressive.

They do a very good job of giving characters distinct personalities. The reactions that Will Tippin has in a number of spots in the last couple episodes, for example, are kind of unexpected and much more interesting than many of the things they could have had him do.

I would posit that the "point" of season one is: personal loyalties are more important than the job. (If you're a good person, anyway.)

I'm glad we're not watching this as it was broadcast; I don't know that I could take the waiting...

Ditto on all those counts. We just finished season one recently and I enjoyed it immensely. We were all set to start season 2 last night, but Seppo had taken the DVDs into work so that he could watch them in the background while doing real work (man, that job sounds cushy!) Thankfully he brought them back today and we're going to start watching tonight. Oh, the excitement! The one thing that I learned from Seppo and that I should warn you about is that apparently they give away a big chunk of what happens in Season 2 during the opening preview of the DVD (before the main menu comes on screen.) So, you should skip the preview if you can, or else run screaming from the room until the main menu shows up.

Anyone who watches this show once per week during the regular season must be driven insane!

Thank you for the warning! That would have made me very cranky to be exposed to that before I got to watch it.

Yes. Watching it unfold one episode per week has been annoying. As somebody who's watched it in that mode since the very first episode (which was totally totally awesome and hooked me for good, even through some of the really bad times).

They've calmed down on the doing the cliffhanger-at-the-end-of-every-episode thing, though. Which is much appreciated.

I should go over and steal season 1 from y'all. At least to watch the first episode again.

Amen... I was hooked as well. I gave up the last season of the X-files to start watching SpyBarbie. Many Sunday evenings ended with me yelling at the tv!

BWUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Did I not warn you to have season 2 available after watching the last episode of season 1. Hmmmm?

I like the characters as they have developed them, in particular that you you can get strong feelings about how the decisions they make. (At least I did.)

nehrlich is correct, it's much better this season. The episodes are less cliff-hangery, but, they also held them until January (sorta a bummer, more waiting up front), so that they could run them without breaks, straight though.

I have Season 2 in the car for you tonight...

It was going to be interruption free, but alas, the shrub is speaking to the nation and as such, Alias is pre-empted tonite.... I'm sure that if they run anything after the speech it will Lost (ABC's flavor-du-jour).

You're right of course. It ruined my morning when my sister pointed it out. Of course, I've not yet caught up on last week's episode, which is taped, but, not yet watched, so, I've got a back-up. But, still...

Grr. Arrgh.

Ooops. I mean, Bad Robot. ;)

Just use my alum.mit address; it's the same as my old athena username. I've got everything forwarding to the same place. (Or have I misinterpreted your request?)

You've interpreted it correctly, but alas, EXMH, whose
address book still has entries from summer renters of my freshman year,
has not your email addy of yore.
