I got up this morning and suddenly realized that this chunk of the project that I've been putting off dealing with for weeks is actually really, really simple, and I know exactly how to implement it. I just have to move one piece of code from here to there, split a class into a base-class that does nothing and an extension that does a little bit, extend the dummy class into a third class that uses single-player mode, and then do the ensemble simulation with a shellscript that wraps the whole thing.

I got an hour's worth of heavy-duty thought work done before I was even out of the shower.

Sometimes being a knowledge worker is really weird.

I get most of my good ideas while taking a shower in the morning. :) Your day started nicely, and I bet you are having a nice day today.

Yeah. Simple. Hell, I could've told you that.

Or not.

Well, I had a remarkably productive work period a couple of nights ago while I was asleep, followed by another decent one last night. The theorem my student and I have been struggling with for ages is almost done.

Sometimes, being a mathematician feels totally f-ing nuts.

While I rarely have shower-epiphanies (probably in large part 'cause I take fewer showers than the average bear, prefering baths, which is likely TMI, but also something that factors into the relative rarity of the occurance. Sorry. That would be the niggling mathmatician in my mind that demands that known and explainable variation should be mentioned...)

As it is, epiphanies often happen to me at random times. The new idea for the Buffy game? Saturday morning running sound at rehearsal. And it came with pictures. Gotta love the timing of the subconcious mind.

That's funny

My whole shower stall is wrapped in shellscript!

OK, fine, I mean hard water scale. But the shower is still very useful for brainwerk.

Yeah, I hear that. I can spend weeks whiffling around a problem and then solve it in 20 minutes, it just has to be the right 20 minutes.

I hate getting good ideas in the shower 'cuz it's the place I'm least likely to be able to write things down. Although having a poem materialize in my brain while commuting to work was pretty bad too... nearly got me killed.

Well, thanks, I'm flattered. Welcome!
