Argh. I hate it when people don't actually read my help requests.

Me: What's the preferred method for doing X? We have both system A and B available, and system A's configuration file says "Do not edit me!" all over it. [Note also: lots of system stuff is using B, but there are things using A that I know were added by our sysadmins...]

Sysadmin: Have you tried using [command] to edit the configuration file for system A? If not, read the manpage on [command] for more info.

Me: Yes. It has lots of comments saying "#DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE". Which is why I'm asking in the first place...

It only says "#Do not edit this file" rather than "#This file generated by [command]. Use [command] rather than edit this file"? That's inadequate.
