Numa Numa

saintpookie found me a copy of the song "Dragostea Din Tei" (Romanian: "Love Among the Linden Trees") by O-Zone. This is the numa-numa song that the guy was lipsynching to in that wacky video that was floating around the net a couple months back, and which spurred the whole "film yourself lipsyncing" meme.

I have now listened to it approximately 30 of the fifty or so times that I have to listen to a new song that I really like when I first get it.

Yay!

I got my PhD in geophysics, and I did computer models of earthquakes for my thesis, so, yup!

Of course, nowadays I'm and educational game developer...

Did you know there's another version of that song, by a band called Haiducii? Having heard both versions, I like H's version more. Both are a lot of fun, and I think dan secretly likes the song too, though he will insist that it's bad synthpop. :)

I've been meaning to order it from amazon for a while, but I may succumb now that I've figured out an order that will get me free shipping..

So, when Paulo showed me the video way back when, he also dug up the song on iTunes, whereupon I listened fascinated to 30-second clips of minor variations of it, of which there were something like two dozen, including translations into English and (I think) Italian. Some time later he bought half a dozen of them and burned them onto a CD, which now lives in the car and we listen to from time to time.
Oddly compelling.

I spent a few days last week staying in a hotel in Chiclayo, Lambayeque, Peru. Chiclayo is pretty hot at this time of year, so, despite the fact that it's a noisy city (lots of cabs honking all the time), I tended to sleep with my window open.

My room was towards the back of the building. Somewhere in the next block over was a dance club of some sort. They played a remix of that song at least once per night every night I was there (I heard it twice one night).
