This weekend we watched a Russian movie Ночной Дозор (Night Watch). It was really good. It's a modern dark fantasy with the usual secret-world-of-monsters beneath our own thing going on.

It had a very original mythology, though; I'm not sure how much of that is Russian vs western, and how much of it was made up by the guy who wrote the book it's based on. Excellent special effects, lots of cool cinematography, interesting story, etc. And it doesn't tell you everything up front, which I always enjoy. In combination with it being in Russian, I did get a little lost here and there, but that's okay. Better lost than spoon-fed.

The boys picked up the import DVD; we watched it on Kuma's new laptop, and it's a good thing he took Russian in highschool, because all the menus were in Russian, too! It's coming to the U.S., and I hope it does well at the box office, because it's the first movie in a trilogy. I'm looking forward to the next two.

I'm looking forward to seeing this in the theater. Now I'm wondering if the theatrical version will be subtitled or dubbed.

From what I've seen, it looks like they are going to release it subtitled, not dubbed.

Is your clock all hopelessly screwed up? [This claims to have been poted at 11:30 PM on Tuesday.] No biggie, but...

As far as i've been able to tell, LJ timestamps are random, or off by 12hrs, when they are not being random.
