*Single people are welcome to answer, too; I just assume that if you've got a bed to yourself, the answer is "the whole bed".

When I sleep alone on my futon, I always sleep on one side. The other side of the bed is where I leave the book I was reading when I went to sleep, and all of the extra pillows. Because it's a flat surface, things rapidly start being left there, slowly encroaching on my side of the bed.

These days, the futon is in couch mode, and I'm sleeping in a hammock. This particular one isn't wide enough to have sides.
