percoset or tired?

I already knew that vicodin does basically nothing for me. I now suspect that percoset is also pretty useless. I took one this morning and I don't think it did much more than just taking the acetamenophen in it would have done.

Well, it might make me kind of spacy -- it was really hard to focus on my meeting this morning.

On the other hand, it could be that was just because I had to get up early after not enough sleep and emergency dental work yesterday, because I felt pretty spacy this afternoon, too, and I didn't take any pills at lunch.

Which is why I'm going to bed now, at 8:30 in the evening. I am totally wiped out.

At least my mouth is healing up nicely. I can eat real food again, as long as I chew on one side.

Hubby's theory is that percocet and vicodin don't do anything beyond acetaminophen, but their main function is to make one not give a rat's behind about hurting.

But I don't think they even do that for me. Probably I have a little bit of natural tolerance, and that plus high body mass means the standard dose is way too low for me.

Not that I really mind being opiate-resistant...

Percoset was pretty good at holding down the pain.. but it was useless for knocking it down in the first place. Morphine was the way to go to get there. The nurse actually warned me that I had to keep up with the percoset for most of a week even when it didn't work and not to try to stretch out the period between pills for a while otherwise they would need to morphine me again. Which, in retrospect, might have been worth it; I understand how people get addicted to that type of hit.

Percoset did have one side effect for me: huge shortterm memory loss. At any moment I felt great and clear headed and well able to work. However once I was off of it I didn't remember any of the meetings/decisions/email that I wrote that week and needed to reconstruct it all. This was a little disconcerting, but given that I already compensate for a bad memory it wasn't that bad.

I would totally use one of the obnoxious comments my significant others make about my memory, if only I could remember any of them.
